Spanish is increasingly becoming a more popular and important language to learn and there a lot of reasons why that it is.
You’ll see pop singers using songs such as Despacito by Daddy Yankee and JB, Mi Gente featuring Beyonce and even Drake makes an appearance on Bad Bunny.
I predict that people trying to learn this beautiful language is going to explode in the years to come.
It’s estimated that 480 million are native speakers with an additional 100 million that speak it as an additional language.
This is according to the Cervantes Institute [a worldwide non-profit organization created by the Spanish government in 1991] which released these figures.
Do you see now why Spanish is becoming important to learn.

As mentioned above the Spanish-speaking population is at such a high level. Essentially a whole new world of possibilities.
Spanish is a global language and one of the official recognised languages at the UN.
The more Spanish people there are in the world, the more people you can meet and talk to.
That’s how new friendships are made.
2. Health benefits
There are studies that claim learning new languages has numerous health benefits. Learning Spanish will:

Learning Spanish will open up the world to more movies, series and culture.
Netflix has a lot of Spanish shows, my favourite being La Casa de Papel [Awesome show about a bank heist – check it out]
This show was also the most-watched foreign language series on Netflix – great achievement.
Hulu has also struck a deal to produce more Spanish speaking shows and are looking to add 28 shows to it’s library.
The Spanish film industry is also boosting and becoming more important and influential. Spanish movies are also becoming more popular at international events.
As mentioned above also the music scene is set to bring more Spanish hits to the masses.
I will always prefer the old school guys like Carlos Santana with hits like Black Magic Woman, Oye Como Va and Smooth.
4. Work Opportunities
The workplace is becoming more and more competitive, believe me, working at a professional services will let you know quicker than anything.
Knowing a second language can be very lucrative and companies always enjoy having people who can potentially help with international trade.
Being in South Africa, that’s a small reason why I started learning Spanish.
You never know where your next job offer is coming from.
The hispanic market currently has purchasing power which is estimated to over $1.7 trillion according to Forbes.
That’s trillion with a big old T.
That’s money on the table right there for you.

5. Finding the love of your life
We’re all looking for that special someone.
I love the latinas (along with the rest of the male population).
One of the main reasons why I’m learning Spanish.
Learning Spanish can open that door to you meeting that special person.
You can become more connected with the Spanish speakers. People always appreciate it when you can speak their language.

6. Travel opportunities
Over 20 countries in the world speak Spanish.
That means there over 20 countries you can visit and speak the local language, mix with the locals and just have a lot of fun.
Explore the beautiful beaches in Santa Domingo.
Sample the delectable Mexican cuisine.
Salsa the night away in Colombia.
All this becomes so much more fun when learning Spanish.
7. Spanish is an easier language to pick up
Spanish is ranked as the easier of the languages to learn.
Make no mistake, you are still going to have to put in the work.
However the grammar, speaking and writing becomes a bit easier due to it’s connection to the Romance languages.
For an English native speaker it’s a no brainer to choose Spanish as a first language to learn.
